Delivery is Not an Add On

When considering a courier firm many clients want their goods to be delivered on time and in one piece. However companies often completely overlook the importance of delivery in terms of their core business.

Keep Scotland Moving This Winter

Earlier this month, Transport Minister, Keith Brown stated that Scotland’s road bosses are continuing to prepare ahead for the forthcoming winter.  This is a relief after last year’s winter which was the worst to hit Scotland in decades.

According to the weather predictions, Britain is set for below average temperatures from December through to February. Heavy snow is expected to fall from November to January with Scotland to be the worst hit.

In preparation Brown inspected parts of Transport Scotland’s estimated £15 million winter service, which began on the 1st of October, during a visit to the depot earlier this month.

Edinburgh tram project censorship

Last week the government released details of the tram project following a request under the Freedom of Information Act but almost all the information was drawn through with black ink, defeating the purpose of the exercise.

Officials published approximately 20 pages which are shown to conceal large areas of information which according to Transport Scotland, contain details relating to the formulation of government policy.

Couriers Fall Off Tracks At Transport Museum

Last month, Glasgow welcomed Scotland’s new museum of travel and transport with open arms – billed to be the “exciting new home for Glasgow's transport collection” and at a cost of £74 million its opening was eagerly anticipated.

Initial impressions were that it was an impressive spectacle, with its 3,000 exhibits and 150 interactive displays drawing hundreds of thousands of visitors within its first opening week.

They have recreated streets, cars, steam engines, tall ships, miniature boats, motorcycles and trams and best of all, it’s free entry for everyone so it’s a great day out for all the family.

Local Transport Developments

Earlier this month Transport Scotland announced they had achieved significant savings for the taxpayer after completing the M74 scheme eight months ahead of schedule and millions of pounds under budget. One of the biggest reasons, it has been claimed, that the scheme ran so successfully was the “robust and effective management” of the project.

By stark comparison, it was announced this week that it will cost in excess of £750 million to scrap the Edinburgh Trams, or £700m to complete the line from Edinburgh Airport to Haymarket.

How Will the Government Aid Delivery Firms?

It’s been a hectic month or so north of the Border, with the country caught up in one of the most dramatic elections of recent times.

We’ve seen a majority government sweep to power for the first time since devolution and the question on everyone’s lips now is how the SNP will drive forward Scotland’s economic and industrial recovery?

Prior to the election there was a lot of talk about how the nationalists would pledge to help small and medium sized businesses in Scotland and encourage them to grow in the aftermath of the economic downturn if they were elected back to power.
