Euan Pollock, Operations Supervisor
Transport is in Euan’s DNA, born into a family with a haulage background. After leaving school, he gained experience at Amazon, taking on increased responsibility. It wasn’t until he found an opportunity at Eagle Couriers, however, that he could see the path laid out for his career progression.
“Being Scotland’s largest independent courier company, Eagle Couriers offered exactly what I was looking for. The potential for growth was evident from day one.”
A Flying Start
Euan started in the operations department, but his ability to learn quickly combined with the culture of internal growth at Eagle meant he was soon working closely with the company’s leadership, including Managing Director Fiona Deas and Group Manager Samuel Milne, between the courier and aviation branches of the business.
“I feel like I learned things quite quickly and I think Fiona and Samuel noticed that, so I got introduced to the aviation side of the business within a couple of months.”
Euan’s dedication and eagerness to understand the full scope of the company’s operations propelled his career forward. He was recently promoted to supervisor, a role that involves overseeing depot performance, liaising with airline partners, and managing key financial metrics —all while ensuring a seamless workflow across Eagle’s internal operations.
Investing in Employees
Euan credits the supportive, progressive work environment as a major contributing factor to his success, praising the leadership at Eagle who make him feel like a valued employee, not just a number.
“What’s great about Eagle is that they really invest in their employees. If you’re willing to take on more responsibilities and show initiative, they provide training and support to help you progress.”
“I think what sets Eagle apart is Fiona and Samuel, they’re so involved. You wouldn’t think in a company this size that your CEO would be so involved with their employees, you often turn round in the office and they are getting stuck into the day-today work.”
Advice for Aspiring Couriers
Reflecting on his journey, Euan has simple but valuable advice for those considering a career in the courier industry.
“Make sure you work for a company that values you. The courier industry is vast, with countless opportunities for growth, so choose a place where you’re more than just an employee.”
Couriers are unsung heroes in modern society, and Euan believes it’s an exciting, growing industry to be a part of – urging courier-hopefuls to make sure they choose a good company with plenty of room for progression and diverse role opportunities.
