Team Member Focus October: Alyson

Book Delivery

In September, we caught up with Derek, our problem solving Logistics Manager. He shared with us his weird go to pizza topping and his hunt for missing palm trees.

Now it’s the turn of Alyson McKell, one of our employed drivers in Glasgow, who has been part of the Eagle family for over a decade.

She told us the one food she can’t stand to eat and why she would have Meatloaf and Mr Bean round for dinner.

We also found out why Alyson had the Commonwealth mascot, Clyde, as her co-pilot and her interest in Japan:

What do you do at Eagle Couriers?

I am one of the employed drivers.

How long have you been working at Eagle Couriers?

About ten or eleven years – probably closer to eleven.

Do you have any strange delivery stories/encounters from your time at Eagle couriers?

Not so much a strange one but this one has stuck with me and is really quite nice.

It was after the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow. There was a competition to win Clyde, the mascot, and I had to deliver him to the winner. He was about 3 foot high and obviously I didn’t want him to be in the back and get dirty so I strapped him into the passenger seat – the looks I got driving with him beside me!

When I finally arrived, a little girl came running out saying it was for her and her brother had won it for her. So I got her to sign for it and she was so excited to finally get it. Her mother informed me that she had been waiting for it all day.

That delivery has stayed with me ever since as it was such a nice experience.

What do you most enjoy about working at Eagle Couriers?

No two days are the same. You meet a lot of people and all the customers are very different.

You can never predict how your day will be.

What’s something unexpected about you?

I’m not too sure really. I guess that I always want to help people.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

Going out with friends and family. Or little trips down south to spend time with my friends that live there. I get the train as I drive enough in my job.

What’s one food that you can’t stand?

Mushrooms – I even hate saying the word.

I have never liked them, I can’t think of one good thing to say about them.

If you could live inside the world of any book/ TV / series or film which one would it be and why?

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. I really like the moral of the story which teaches people not to be greedy.

Plus I really like sweeties and chocolates.

What kind of animal do you think you’d be?

I would like to be a lion. I think they are really nice animals.

If you could have dinner with any 5 people living or dead, who would it be and why?

I would have my family, Meatloaf, and Mr Bean.

I have always loved Meatloaf’s music so would be great to meet him.

And Mr Bean is really funny so he would be a good laugh to have round.

If you were stranded on a desert Island – and you could only bring three things with you – what would they be and why?

My family and friends to have people there with me.

Food so we don’t get hungry.

And a mobile phone so once we get bored and run out of food we can get someone to come rescue us.

If you could have any superpower what would it be and why?

Transportation, I would like being able to go everywhere and anywhere whenever I want.

I could probably do my job a lot quicker too.

If you could travel to any point in time, where would you go?

I would probably go back to my teenage years.

I was more carefree and didn’t have any stress or worries.

If you could teleport yourself anywhere in the world right now where would it be?

Japan. I think it would be really interesting to go and see the different culture.
