Team Member Focus November: Samuel Milne

Book Delivery

Last month, we caught up with Eagle Courier’s Despatch Control Manager, Murray Hogarth, who has worked for the company for nearly a decade.

In the hot seat this month is THS Operations Supervisor, Samuel Milne, a rising star of the company who has progressed really well, despite difficult circumstances.

What is your role at the company?

My job description is THS Operations Supervisor – I manage the operation across our UK locations in Scotland, England and Northern Ireland as well as looking after the airlines that we service.

How many years have you been working at the company?

I’ve been working at the company for three years now, I was promoted to my current position in September.

What do you enjoy most about working here?

The people, we have really good staff here. Always plenty of laughs.

Do you have any strange stories from your time here?

I’ve had quite a few! The strangest I think was when Emirates unexpectedly sent us a box of raw meat. It was really smelly.  Another one involved the Scottish Rugby team. There was some kind of mistake with sending the rugby kits through to Italy so Eagle took a jumbo transit directly to Italy to make sure they got there on time! It was a pretty exciting job to get.

What is something unexpected about you?

Loads of people always expect me to be much older than I actually am. I’m only 18! I left school at 15 and went straight into an operations assistant role with Eagle. I’ve been here ever since.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

I work a lot due to the airline business being a 24 hour industry meaning I’m always on my phone checking shipments and emails so when I have spare time I enjoy a night out with my pals!

What foods can you not stand?

I really don’t like mushrooms.

What kind of animal do you think you would be?

I’d be an elephant because I’m massive! Also because elephants are quite calm and very loyal.

If you could have dinner with any three people, living or dead, who would they be and why?

I’d start with my dad, he died a few years ago and I’d love to have a meal with him. Then it would have to be Freddie Mercury because he is amazing. I’d also like to meet Rodger Waters from Pink Floyd because I love the band and he’s brilliant.

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be?

I’d love to stay in Glasgow because I love the city and I’ve lived here my whole life. Ideally, I’d move into the city centre but it’s expensive. If it was somewhere more tropical I’d move to Canada. They seem to have a good way of life over there.

If you could teleport yourself to anywhere in the world right now, where would it be?

I’d go back in time to a Pink Floyd concert but one of the good ones. I’d love to see some of their famous performances.

If you were stranded on a desert island and you could only bring three things, what would they be?

I’d have to take my phone so that the airlines don’t get annoyed if they can’t get hold of me! I’d take my music to listen to as that’s something I really enjoy. I’d also take food. I’d really want to have some sort of kebab!

If you could be inside the world of any book, TV show or film, which one would it be and why?

That’s a hard one. I think I’d like to go on I’m a Celebrity to see if I could do it. I think I could. Maybe this interview will be the beginning of my fame so I can go on and try it next year!
