This month, we are shining the spotlight on one of our employees who simply goes above and beyond to ensure we deliver the best courier services in Scotland, our Accounts Assistant, Uyanga Heesch.
Uyanga Heesch, Accounts Assistant at Eagle Couriers
Uyanga, can you tell us a bit about your background?
I’m originally from Mongolia, but came to the UK in 2000 as I wanted to improve my English. I only intended to be here for six months, but when I fell into a job while finishing off my studies, well, the rest is history! I began working part-time in the hospitality industry at a range of top hotels and in 2016, I moved to Scotland with my husband and daughter where I later took on a role at Eagle Couriers in 2019.
I am a qualified accounting technician (MAAT) and currently self-studying towards gaining my Accredited Accountant (ACCA) qualification.
What made you make the move up to Scotland?
My husband and I chose to come to Scotland for a better quality of life, especially because I had just had my daughter. I have always had a soft spot for the country after coming here on my honeymoon and previously travelling around the Highlands. It seemed like the right place to settle down and I haven’t looked back since.
I thoroughly enjoy working in Scotland as it has provided me with the opportunity to get to know lots of Scottish people and get an insight into their culture. I initially found the accent quite hard to understand as people here speak so quickly, but over time I’ve got more used to it!
What attracted you to begin a career at Eagle Couriers?
I already had some accounting experience before starting at Eagle Couriers as I worked on the operational side of hospitality for a while. This definitely helped me when I began, however I still had to adjust to the way Eagle Couriers operates as every business has its own ways of working.
Getting my head around the new environment was tricky at first, and it all felt very fast-paced, but I quickly learned and began to gain more confidence in myself. Even now, I still find myself learning new things each day!
What does your job at Eagle Couriers involve?
Each day I work alongside my colleague to keep on top of all admin and accounting work. It’s a small team, but the two of us work closely together to ensure all of the company’s banking needs are met. We also assist with customer queries on a daily basis.
Every day is busy which means I never get bored! I always have something new to learn which keeps me occupied and satisfied.
What is the best thing about your job?
I like that there is a lot of flexibility working at Eagle Couriers. I’m given great opportunities to grow and thrive in my role, and there is loads of career progression. I’m also always given the chance to take on new challenges which help me learn even more. I think being part of such a small team ensures my personal growth is prioritised, rather than being only a number at a bigger firm. It really feels like a little family here!
The flexibility of the job also gives me a fantastic work/life balance. Allowing me to work condensed hours has been so helpful so that I can spend more time with my family.
We pride ourselves on the courier services in Scotland we give to our customers, and are pleased to have NHS, Scottish Government, and Scottish Police Authority amongst our customers.
